Christmas Toy Run
December 6, 2014 @ 9:00 am - 3:00 pm
The Conyers Riding Association is getting ready to ride again this holiday season to help area children in need.
This year, which marks the 24th anniversary of the Annual Christmas Toy Run, the association will partner with the East Metro Chapter, International Blue Knights of Law Enforcement Motor Cycle Club, Georgia Chapter XIX. The ride is scheduled for Dec. 6.
“Together we hope to make the 2014 Christmas Toy Run the best ever, and as in the past, 100 percent of all toys and donations will go to our designated beneficiary, Rockdale Emergency Relief,” said Jim Hanson, a director with the East Metro Blue Knights.
Hanson said the Blue Knights got involved at the request of the Conyers Riding Association, which has a relatively small membership. Hanson said the annual Toy Run had gotten so large that it became difficult for the smaller organization to handle alone.
“We have a big club,” said Hanson, who explained that the Blue Knights are all active or retired law enforcement officers. “We’ve got a real strong membership. They were looking for help and they came to us and asked if we’d like to help sponsor the event. We are just so honored to be helping them out with it.”
Hanson said riders will assemble at 9 a.m. on Dec. 6 at Target on Ga. Highway 20 South. The actual ride will begin around 11 a.m. and conclude around 12:30 p.m. at Falcons Fury Harley Davidson in Conyers. Hanson said the route will take riders over to Salem Road and then north through Rockdale County before returning to Conyers. Riders will be escorted by officers with the Rockdale County Sheriff’s Office.
Food, drinks, door prizes and other events will be offered at the conclusion of the ride.
Admission to the ride is $15 per bike or a new toy of equal value. Passengers can participate at $10 each or a toy of equal value.
In addition, Hanson said any donations of goods or services that can be raffled at the end of the ride will be appreciated. All donations are tax deductible, and all production costs of this event are paid by the Conyers Riding Association.
Rockdale Emergency Relief is also accepting donations of nonperishable food items and monetary donations. Checks should be made payable to Rockdale Emergency Relief. Toys may also be donated at drop boxes at Falcons Fury Harley Davidson or at Horizons Motor Sports in Conyers. Hanson said anyone who needs a donation to be picked up can contact him at 678-373-9102.
The Conyers Riding Association dedicates the annual Toy Run to the memory of Robert Mayfield, a member of the Conyers Riding Association who was killed in 1996 in a motorcycle accident on Salem Road.
